In an interview with IRNA he said, ‘We welcome Iran’s joining the CPEC.’
Under the CPEC many infrastructure projects are under construction throughout Pakistan. Originally valued at $46 billion, the value of CPEC projects is now worth $62 billion. The project will link Pakistani Gwadar port to China Xinjiang province.
Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing, expressing his views, said Iran is a partner in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) because Iran is a neighbor of Pakistan and the countries have cordial relations.
“I think CPEC is a regional project and if Iran could be the benefiter of the regional connectivity and cooperation I think this would add to the value of the CPEC,” he said.
The envoy added Iran is providing bigger prospective for the future development of the CPEC. “Iran is giving us more resources for example business opportunities, excess to west Asia,” he said.
He said Iran is a natural partner in CPEC through energy, human resources etc.
Earlier Former Pakistani ambassador Tajammul Altaf had said that Iran’s joining the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be a welcoming development.
He added Chinese would also welcome that. “We are improving our relations with Iran and linking Chabahar-Gwadar ports with each other would be an important chunk in that,” he noted.
